How to fix shutdown problem in windows 10
Problem:
Pc Won't shut down completely, the screen goes off and the remaining system
i.e., hard disk, fan, indicators lights all are running as usual.
Note: It would be worth mentioning that before applying this solution I have tried various tricks to solve the issue i.e.,
- Updating all the drivers and software on my PC.
- Toggling fast boot option.
- Changing power options.
- Force windows shut down.
Solution:
The main culprit to this problem is the Intel Management Interface Engine
aka ME. This driver is situated on the motherboard basically it is a kind of
microcontroller that has access to every hardware be its system memory,
power, or any other hardware. Basically, the driver has its own os, own
memory and the best part is that it never goes off, it continuously runs in
the background even if the device is switched off. The problem arises when
the driver is malfunctioning either due to a software bug or due to
incompatible of the driver with the system hardware.
In order to fix this, one has to update or roll back the Intel Management
Interface Engine driver. To get rid of this follow the instruction given
below.
Procedure: Automatic installation of the driver.
- Right-click on the start menu and click on the device manager option or directly search for the device manager from the windows search bar.
- On the device manager page, look for the System devices option and click on it.
- Now search for Intel Management Interface Engine and click on it.
- On the properties page, navigate to the Driver tab and click on the options that say, update driver.
- Again you are welcomed with a prompt that asks you from you want to install the driver, click on the search automatically for the driver option. It will download the latest available driver for your system.
- Now close everything and try to shut down your system completely. If everything goes right your PC will be switched off normally and if not do the manual installation that I have explained below.
Procedure: Manual installation of the driver.
If the automatic installation didn't work for you try to install the same
manually. I have provided the direct link to download the driver version
below that worked for me and I think it might also work for you.
Just download the exe file and in place of automatically searching for the
driver in step 5 above choose to browse my computer for drivers and follow
the on-screen installation to install the driver.
Now again try to shut down your PC completely. Now it should be switching
off as usual. If the problem persists then you have to do some more hard
work finding the exact driver version that is compatible with the operating
system that you are currently running plus the processor and the generation
of the processor. After finding the exact driver repeat the process the get
the result.
I hope this article was helpful to you.
Thank you.
