Hello there, In this article, I will tell you how you can install WSL in the windows 10 2004 version. Basically, WSL is used for running Linux commands and applications in the Windows environment. It is important to note that WSL only works in 64 bit operating systems and not in 32 bit operating systems, for those who have a 32 bit operating systems will have to use a third party software Cygwin to run Linux commands in the windows operating system. Just follow the below instructions to install WSL in your windows machine and make sure you have enabled the internet in your system.

Procedure: 

  1. First of all head over to system setting and select update and security. 

  2. Now select the For developer option from the sidebar menu. 

  3. Then toggle on the option that says developer mode and clicks on the yes button in the pop-up prompt. 

  4. Lets then go to the control panel and select programs and features. 

  5. Click on the turn windows feature on and off option present at the top left corner of the screen. 

  6. Now you will encounter a new window full of a checkbox, here scroll down and search for WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) situated at the bottom of the list and select it. 


  7. After that system will check for the required files and after that, it will go to a restart. 

  8. Once your system boots go to the search bar and type bash and hit enter. 

  9. You will be welcomed by a Linux shell and with this you have successfully installed WSL in your windows 10 machine running 2004 version. 

Exception: 

Sometimes some users encounter installation problems i.e., as the click on the bash option from the search result the screen appears and then goes back immediately. So to fix this issue just follow the below instructions to solve the same.
  1. Open Microsoft Store and search for Ubuntu. 


  2. Select the first one and install it.

  3. Now open the Ubuntu app from the search menu. 

  4. Now yow will see that the screen is fixed.
